A New South Wales government body, to be called the Department of Environment and Conservation, will be formed with the merger of the state Environment Protection Authority, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Resource NSW and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Thirteen councils have so far responded to a $300,000 Melbourne Water initiative to develop Sustainable Water Use Plans. Each council is eligible for a $10,000 grant to develop their plan to reduce water consumption.
