Premier Jim Bacon has said old-growth logging may continue in Tasmania up until 2010. The Wilderness Society claims the timeframe is an empty commitment, as resources will be exhausted by then anyway.

The Australian Conservation Foundation has called on the Government to set a greenhouse reduction target, increase the mandatory renewable energy target to 10% by 2010, implement an energy efficiency target of 50% by 2025, and bring in emissions trading.
