Coral reefs not protected from threat of climate change
ABC News
Research has shown that marine reserves are not helpful in protecting coral reefs against the effects of climate change. Associate Professor John Bruno from the University of North Carolina has studied over 8,000 reefs in the Indian, Caribbean and Pacific oceans. The results suggested that, while reserves are valuable for protecting coral against local threats like over-fishing and pollution, they do not seem to help reduce regional scale threats such as coral disease and bleaching.
