Out-of-season fruit and veg impacting environment
ABC News
Australians eating fruit and vegetables out of season are having a big impact on the environment, says freelance journalist Virginia Balfour, with much produce stored for months and transported about the country. A lot of the time consumers are missing out on the best produce, and need to start buying seasonally, says farmer Jamie Jurgen. In some places produce grown locally is transported out to distribution centres, simply to be trucked back again to be sold in shops.
